About UMass RecWell Facilities
UMass RecWell features a variety of state-of-the-art facilities designed to support health and wellness for the campus community. With multiple recreation spaces, including the Recreation Center, pools, fitness studios, and courts, there's something for everyone. Highlights include the Climbing Center, a brand-new 2,300 sq. ft. bouldering space offering climbs for all skill levels, and two aquatic facilities for lap swimming and water-based fitness. Whether you're lifting weights, participating in a group class, or enjoying a pick-up soccer game, RecWell provides versatile spaces to meet a wide range of fitness and recreation needs.
Recreation Center
The UMass Recreation Center is the heart of fitness and wellness on campus, serving over 3,000 members daily. This state-of-the-art facility features spacious cardio and strength training areas, multi-purpose fitness studios, basketball courts, and an indoor jogging track. Designed to support a wide range of fitness goals, the Rec Center provides a welcoming space for individual workouts, group classes, and recreational sports, helping the campus community stay active and healthy.
Climbing Center
The Climbing Center at UMass Amherst is a brand-new bouldering facility located within the Fieldstone Building at 345 Lincoln Avenue (entrance on Massachusetts Avenue). Spanning over 2,300 square feet, the Climbing Center offers climbs up to 14 feet high, designed to challenge climbers of all skill levels. This vibrant space is perfect for building strength, enhancing technique, and fostering community among climbing enthusiasts. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber, the Climbing Center provides a welcoming environment to explore the vertical world!
Recreation Turf Fields
The Rec Turf Field at UMass Amherst is a versatile outdoor sports facility located near the Recreation Center. This synthetic turf field is designed for a variety of recreational and intramural activities, including soccer, football, lacrosse, and other field sports. It is open to UMass students, faculty, and staff and serves as a popular location for both casual play and organized team sports. The field offers a well-maintained, all-weather surface, making it ideal for year-round use.
Mullins Tennis/Pickleball Courts
NOTE: Due to poor conditions, the Mullins Tennis/Pickleball Courts are closed until further notice. The Mullins Tennis/Pickleball Courts at UMass Amherst are located next to the Mullins Center and offer a set of high-quality outdoor courts for tennis and pickleball enthusiasts. These courts are available for both recreational play and team practices, providing a space for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy the sport. The facility features well-maintained surfaces, and the courts are open for use during favorable weather conditions, offering a great option for those looking to stay active in the outdoors. The Mullins Tennis/pickleball Courts are also used for intramural tennis and pickleball events and tournaments, serving as a key recreational space on campus.
Curry Hicks Pool
The Curry Hicks Pool at UMass Amherst is an indoor swimming facility located within the Curry Hicks Cage at 130 Hicks Way. This 25-yard pool is designed for both recreational swimming and fitness activities. The pool features multiple lanes for lap swimming, as well as open swim times for casual use. It is also used for swim lessons, water aerobics classes, and other aquatic programs. Boyden Pool offers a welcoming environment for swimmers of all skill levels and is a key resource for the UMass community looking to incorporate water-based fitness into their routine.
Other Facilities
In addition to its main facilities, UMass Recreation & Wellbeing offers 12 other facilities to support a wide range of fitness, sports, and recreational activities. These include specialized spaces like the UMass Bubble, the Contemplative Room, and outdoor spaces for activities such as baseball and volleyball.
