Terrie Black is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse (CRRN), fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), and fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). She also serves as a nurse reviewer with The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care certification division.

Dr. Black is a past president of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) and past chair of ARN’s Health Policy Committee. She received the Distinguished Service Award and President’s Award from ARN for her contributions and leadership, as well as the Editor’s Choice Award from the Rehabilitation Nursing journal.

Dr. Black is an immediate past chair of the Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing (CVSN) Council of the American Heart Association (AHA). In 2023, she received the Outstanding Leadership Award from AHA.

She is a UMass STRIDE Fellow, an ADVANCE Fellow, and serves on the UMass Advisory Board for the Office of Faculty Development. She was the recipient of the College Outstanding Teaching Award in 2022 and has been nominated twice for the campus-wide Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Black has served on numerous national technical expert panels, has been a PCORI reviewer, and was selected as a subject matter expert for both the National Quality Forum (NQF) and, more recently, the Partnership for Quality Measurement (PQM). She is a frequently invited speaker at national and international conferences. She has numerous publications and book chapters and was the only nurse author on a landmark American Heart Association publication addressing "Life’s Essential 8."

Dr. Black is a passionate educator, leader, mentor, and change agent for students and faculty alike.
