Elaine Marieb College of Nursing faculty members Dr. Rae Walker, Dr. Jess Dillard-Wright, and Dr. Favorite Iradukunda were honored on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the American Academy of Nursing’s (AAN) annual Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. The distinguished team received the 2025 Article of the Year Award in the Practice category for their groundbreaking article “Algorithmic bias in artificial intelligence is a problem—And the root issue is power." The article explores how power dynamics underpin algorithmic bias in AI, a critical issue in healthcare innovation and ethics.

The prestigious AAN award recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions that have demonstrated significant impact in nursing practice. Articles of the Year are selected by the editorial board of Nursing Outlook based on a comprehensive review of downloads, citations, and overall influence within the field.

Dr. Sean Clarke, editor-in-chief of Nursing Outlook, presented the award during the conference.
