Multi-year communities are designed to provide sophomores, juniors and seniors with enriching experiences, autonomy and self-discovery, continued learning and connections with a diverse group of UMass Amherst students. Cashin is a Break Housing hall. This means that residents who live here do not have to leave during Thanksgiving, Winter session, and Spring breaks.

Welcome to McNamara Hall
McNamara Hall is a suite-style hall. All of the bed spaced in McNamara Hall are dedicated to first-year students and new incoming transfer students. McNamara is also home to the Sylvan Snack Bar, a student-run business right in the building that serves snacks.

RFYE/Transfer Community
All of the bed spaced in McNamara Hall are dedicated to new incoming first-year and transfer students.
- Residential First-Year Experience (RFYE)
RFYE halls are designed as living-learning communities where first-year students can engage with their peers around common interests and pursuits. First-year halls offer intentional staffing and support to assist students in their transition to the University. Sylvan Suites
Suites have a combination of standard single rooms, one deluxe single room and shared rooms. They include a common room set up like a living room with couches and tables that can be used for study or socializing, and a bathroom that you only share with your suitemates which is cleaned regularly by staff. Below is an example of a McNamara Suite:
