The Black Presence Space (formerly known as the Malcolm X Center) is an academic space where we highlight the history and interpretation of the Black Presence at UMass Amherst. The space allows students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the broader community to learn, support, and give back to the Black experience on campus. From lectures and presentations to alumni cookouts and student movie nights, The Black Presence Space wants to be a place where all are welcome, and we offer a safe space to grow together in solidarity. Stewarded by the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies and with the support of the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, the Black Presence Space is operated by its graduate program coordinator (Elliot Brown) and its two work study students (Virmarie Feliz Peralta and King Jones). If you have any inquiries about using the space, please contact us via email at @email.
