The UMass Amherst Energy Transition Institute (ETI) recently hosted professor and researcher Cécile Renouard, president and co-founder of the new Campus of the Transition in France, while she was on a limited tour of U.S. college campuses to build collaborations and investigate innovative ways to incorporate equity and other social issues into sustainability education and in living labs.

Renouard’s visit to campus on March 8 included presentations and discussions with ELEVATE doctoral students, and with representatives from ETI, iCONS, the School of Earth and Sustainability and the Sustainability Science Master’s Program. Renouard also experienced the UMass Amherst living lab in real time, as she participated in the Energy Justice Lab training for the Holyoke Community Energy Project.

Renouard is professor of philosophy and ethics at ESSEC Business School, Ecole des Mines de Paris, and Facultés Loyola Paris. She is president and co-founder of the Campus de la Transition, an eco-campus and living lab near Paris, which cultivates teaching, research and experimentation created in 2018 by a collective of academics, entrepreneurs and students united by a common desire to promote an ecological, economic and just transition, towards regenerative and solidarity economies and societies.
