Application fee $45 – All Applicants
Residential program fees include tuition, housing, a full meal plan consisting of three meals a day, co-curricular activities, and a one-time registration fee. Commuter program fees include tuition, a lunch-only meal plan, co-curricular activities, and a one-time registration fee. All students receive a UMass student ID card (UCard) as well as access to the campus Recreation Center. Certain programs have an additional materials fee to cover the cost of necessary tools and supplies. These come pre-packaged through the host departments.

Partial Scholarships
UMass Amherst Pre-College Programs offers a limited number of partial, need-based scholarships for 1-week, 2-week, and 3-week programs. Scholarships are not guaranteed, as funding is limited. Scholarships are not available for the 6-week Research Intensives, with the exception of the Adler Lab. The maximum scholarship award that may be offered is $1,000.
Full Scholarships
UMass Amherst Pre-College Programs offers one full, need-based scholarship for the Summer Engineering Institute per summer.
Additionally, Question Everything: A Summer Philosophy Program is offering full scholarships for all admitted applicants. The program is open to rising seniors from Springfield and Holyoke, MA.

The following programs will have a limited number of partial or full scholarships available for students with financial need.
Summer Design Academy: The UMass Department of Architecture is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in higher education, and in the profession of architecture. Several need-based partial scholarships are available for students of color with financial need. Please submit a scholarship essay as outlined below to apply.
Summer Engineering Institute: Applicants with both demonstrable financial need and academic merit may apply for a partial scholarship. Please submit a scholarship essay as outlined below to apply.
Sport Management & Leadership Academy: The McCormack Department is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in the classroom, and the sports industry. Several full scholarships are available for young women and students of color with financial need. Applications will be judged based on the applicant’s academic record, sport-related work or participatory experience, and a short, 500 word essay that describes their career aspirations. Please submit a scholarship essay as outlined below to apply.
How to Apply for a Scholarship
To apply for a scholarship, please fill out the Scholarships section in the application system. We require:
- a scholarship essay as outlined below (submitted directly into your application)
- a letter of verification from a community member (requested through the application system). Letters from high school principals, guidance counselors, community or religious leaders, or a representative from a social service agency are all acceptable.
Scholarship Essay: With the help of your parent or guardian, please write a 500-word statement addressing how receiving a scholarship would affect your ability to attend the program(s) to which you have applied. While no financial documents are required, please share some details that would help us to understand your family's financial situation, such as the number of people living in your household, the employment status of your parents/guardians, etc.
All scholarship essays and letters of support must be received by April 15th.
The Scholarship Awards Committee takes into consideration several factors when awarding scholarships, including family finances, employment status, and family size. A typical scholarship covers only a portion of the program fees; families should expect to contribute to the cost of attending a program. Massachusetts residents will be given priority. Awards will be disbursed shortly after the April 15th deadline.
Benefited employees of the UMass system may be eligible for a tuition credit for their dependents. Tuition credits apply to class fees only, not to any non-class fees such as room & board. The UMass system includes benefited employees at: UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, UMass Lowell, UMass Dartmouth & UMass Medical.

Once accepted, a non-refundable deposit of $500 must be paid to hold a student’s space in the program. Deposits are due within 2 weeks of acceptance. Payment of the deposit represents the student’s confirmation of attendance and is non-refundable.

If UMass Pre-College Programs cancels a course for any reason, students receive a full refund. If a student withdraws from the program, refunds are provided according to the schedule below. The $500 deposit is non-refundable.
