Anna Shkireva is currently teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced Russian at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Anna holds an MA in International Relations and currently she is pursuing a Ph.D. in TESOL at the University of New Mexico. Anna’s academic interests include second language acquisition, enhancement of language students’ learning, and instructional strategies to support the development of students’ interest. Her recent work focuses on the impact of a teachers’ authentic care on students’ persistence on the beginning’s level of foreign language courses. Prior coming to the University of Massachusetts, Anna has taught Russian at the University of New Mexico and at the Indiana University during the summer Language Workshop. Anna has also participated in various workshops and institutes (ACTFL OPI Tester Training Workshop, STARTALK Institute for Teachers at Middlebury College and SUMMER INSTITUTE on Slavic & Eurasian Language Pedagogy, Research & Testing at Duke University) that meant to develop her professional qualities and enhance her pedagogical expertise.
