Caring for patients from underserved Asian communities: A web-based toolkit to train Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students in the use of culturally competent Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
About
Associate Professor Dr Jeungok Choi has received a one year President Grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation to support the creation of a web-based toolkit to provide training for students in the UMass Amherst Doctor of Nursing (DNP) practice program in the use of culturally responsive motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. The toolkit will be integrated into a series of core courses in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program and its effectiveness will be evaluated. The overall goal of this educational intervention is to improve DNP students’ skills, knowledge, and attitude with the utilization of culturally responsive and cognitive behavioral therapy among underserved Asian communities.
