Drs. Canty, Abelard and Iradukunda are among the 253 distinguished nurse leaders in the 2023 Class of Fellows. New FAAN inductees represent 40 states, the District of Columbia, and 13 countries. New Fellows will be recognized for their substantial, sustained, and outstanding impact on health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, taking place on October 5 – 7, 2023 in Washington, DC. This year’s conference theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Leadership, Policy, and Partnership.” This is a historic year for the Academy, as the organization is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The new inductees will join the ranks of the more than 3,000 leaders who are experts in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia championing health and wellness, locally and globally. They were selected through a rigorous and competitive application process based on their contributions to advance the public’s health.
The American Academy of Nursing's Fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research. Fellows represent association executives; university presidents, chancellors and deans; elected officials; state and federal political appointees; hospital chief executives and vice presidents for nursing; nurse consultants; and researchers and entrepreneurs.
AAN membership is awarded by invitation as recognition of outstanding accomplishments within the nursing profession and to health care. It offers an opportunity to work with other leaders in health care in addressing the issues of the day.
Drs. Abelard, Canty and Iradukuna will join several active and emerita faculty of the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing.
