About
Sarah Fiske, PhD, RN, CNL, currently serves as the postdoctoral research fellow for the Local Public Health Nurse Consultant (LPHNC) program. Merging her unique professional nursing expertise with the shared goals of the LPHNC program has been a rewarding opportunity. She looks forward to helping build a foundation for local public health nurses that is sustainable, equitable, and accessible, with the aim of strengthening the workforce and advancing public health.
Sarah received her PhD from the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing in 2023. Her research focuses on symptom science and self-management of chronic disease, specifically nurse-led cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and biobehavioral interventions such as Fitbit devices and wearable sleep monitors. These interventions address the psychological and physical components of chronic diseases, including arthritis, fatigue, and endocrine, nutrition, and metabolic conditions. Her interests in identifying and activating self-management skills to improve health and promote wellness, combined with her clinical expertise, guide her professional development and future goals.
Sarah’s nursing background includes advanced clinical achievements, including the UMass College of Nursing Leadership Award, and a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) certification from the Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). She brings over ten years of emergency department experience. Sarah has held numerous academic appointments across Western Massachusetts in nursing and public health and currently serves as adjunct nursing faculty at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In addition to her postdoctoral research fellow role, she serves as a public health nurse for the Valley Health Regional Collaborative in the Western Region. There, she develops programs and partners with collaborators such as the American Heart Association and the UMass Nursing Teaching Kitchens to address community needs and advance public health.
