Past internship experience was really important in getting my job. In my interviews, I was asked about my experience working on campus, in lab/healthcare settings, and especially about my research experience with the UMass IALS Core summer internship. My employer was looking for past work experience that would make it easier for me to transition and train into the role they were hiring for.

A big thing that helped me land my job after graduation, was my EMT experience. It wasn't even terribly long, less than a year, but I was able to demonstrate that I could at least recognize the uncomfortable aspects of medical care, and it was another foot in the door for dealing with the technical and logistic side which is most important for medicine.
