About
Dr. Young brings to his teaching years of practical experience as a practicing veterinarian in both urban and rural private veterinary hospitals. Emphasizing continuing advancements in medical and surgical treatment options for animals, Dr. Young combines his broad experience in veterinary medicine and surgery with his love of teaching, to positively impact those preparing to enter the veterinary field, whether in the lab, classroom or on-site in a wildlife sanctuary in Belize.
"I immensely enjoy working with students, teaching them, participating in their development both professionally and as individuals. I also find great satisfaction in working with animals and the practice of veterinary medicine. Both are rewarding beyond words, and teaching in the field of veterinary medicine ideally combines the two. I love what I do and I have fun doing it, and my heartfelt advice to my students is to pursue career paths that will enable them to feel the same way. "
Among his academic career highlights, Dr. Young cites the development of a course focused on wildlife conservation and the practice of veterinary medicine in tropical developing countries that incorporates service-learning and short-term study abroad in Belize. "Teaching this course has given me an opportunity to provide students with both educational and life experiences that they would never receive in the traditional academic environment. "
