Alioune Gueye

Professor Gueye, the recipient of the Mount Ida 2016 Ronald J. Lettieri award for Teaching Excellence, places emphasis on providing students the opportunity to put into practice the critical thinking skills and knowledge that they are developing in the classroom. You may find him in the laboratory, in the classroom using case studies or traveling with a class to Costa Rica to visit a wildlife sanctuary to study turtles and plant mangroves.

"By utilizing case studies, I emphasize to students that what they are learning goes beyond the classroom experience and is an indispensable continuation into their professional career. My professional background allows me to be able to engage students in scientific understanding, interpersonal skills, and professional preparation."

Gueye is particularly proud of obtaining the certification for the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists and serving as a mentor. "I enjoy teaching and find it very rewarding when I see students who experienced academic difficulties in their freshmen years, persevere and finish their studies. As an academic advisor, "I get the opportunity to know students better and provide moral support when needed," Professor Gueye says.

He is a member of the American Society of Animal Science, the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, and the American Society for Microbiology.

Professor Gueye teaches Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Microbiology, and the Veterinary Clinical lab and lecture.
