Meet Yanbin Wu, a recent UMass Amherst graduate with a degree in computer engineering.
This summer, Yanbin embarked on an exciting journey as a Technical Support Intern at MetaSystems Group, a Boston-area microscopic imaging company.
At MetaSystems, Yanbin's role was multifaceted. He configured PCs, microscopes and slide feeders – systems that aid labs and hospitals in scanning glass slides for cytogenetics and chromosomes. “I answered calls and emails from real clients, troubleshooting microscope issues, and even flew to labs for installations or maintenance,” he said.
Yanbin enjoyed the company culture. "My manager and everybody were super chill. If you don't leave at 5:00, they're going to kick you out,” he said. “The work-life balance is great.”
Living at Mount Ida played a significant role in Yanbin's positive internship experience. “It gets rid of a lot of financial burden,” he said. “The campus is super nice, quiet, and everything is clean and pretty.”
Outside of work and campus life, Yanbin was able to pursue his passion for dancing. “I was part of the UMass ballroom dance team, so I explored dance socials in Boston,” he said. Through his love for dance, he found ways to stay active and connect with others, highlighting the importance of being open to new experiences outside of work.
His summer experience at MetaSystems went so well that he received and signed a job offer. Yanbin is now preparing to start in his new full-time position this month.
Yanbin’s journey to a full-time technical support role with good work-life balance exemplifies the value of an internship.
Here's to an exciting career ahead, Yanbin!
