In an email to the university community on March 14, Fouad Abd-El-Khalick, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, announced the formation of a search advisory committee to aid in filling the position of retiring Vice Provost for Enrollment Management James Roche.

Jim Roche, who has served as vice provost for enrollment management since 2011, shared his plans with the campus leadership to retire later this year. As the first to serve in this position, he has built an impressive team over the last 14 years to meet the changing needs of our students, parents, and university colleagues. 

Under Jim’s leadership, our first-year application numbers have grown to over 50,000 annually and as the result of his team’s collective effort, our domestic and international recruitment reach has expanded significantly. I want to thank Jim for his tremendous contributions to our enrollment strategy and share my sincere appreciation for his dedication to serving the entire university community. 

To ensure a smooth transition, I have appointed a search advisory committee to aid in the selection of the next vice provost for enrollment management. Farshid Hajir, senior vice provost and dean of undergraduate education, and Kalpen Trivedi, vice provost for global affairs, will serve as co-chairs of the committee.

Members of the committee include: 

• Brenda Barlow, assistant dean, College of Natural Sciences
• Patricia Cardoso-Erase, interim dean of students, Dean of Students Office
• John Feudo, vice chancellor for university advancement and global engagement, UMass Lowell
• Krisztina Filep, executive director of analytics and institutional research, University Analytics and Institutional Research
• Colby Hall, senior associate dean for student-athlete performance, health and wellness, Athletics
• Lynn McKenna, assistant vice chancellor for budget and financial analysis
• Lynn Phillips, senior associate dean for education and student development, senior lecturer II, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
• Lisa Ryan, chief marketing officer, University Relations
