All UMass Amherst full-time tenure and non-tenure track faculty have until Friday, April 5 to complete the UMass-COACHE Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey to guide strategic investments, programming and policy to improve faculty job satisfaction and retention.

All faculty members who complete the 25-minute web-based survey will be automatically entered in a drawing for prizes, including a complimentary 2024-25 Parking Pass and four $100 UMass Dining Cash Cards.

“We are so grateful to all the faculty members who have taken the time to share their experiences in this critical effort. Future campus programming and policies will be informed by the information you have shared,” says Angela de Oliveira, associate provost for Faculty Development.

For faculty members who have not completed the survey that was distributed in February, a final reminder from the COACHE team will be sent via email from coachefaculty@abtsurvey.com with the subject line, “Reminder: COACHE’s Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey at UMass Amherst.”

“We strive to involve as many faculty voices as possible to enhance the depth and diversity of our insights. If you have not taken the survey yet, I hope you will offer your valuable perspective to this work,” adds de Oliveira.

COACHE – Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education – located at Harvard University, conducts this multi-institutional survey to assess issues and trends in work satisfaction among college and university faculty. The study, which carries approval from Harvard’s Institutional Review Board, collects data confidentially. Data are analyzed by the COACHE team at Harvard and shared with the Office of Assessment, Survey, and Effectiveness Research (previously the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment) at UMass Amherst in de-identified form or anonymously. The records are held in the Office of Assessment, Survey, and Effectiveness Research and no one in a supervisory or evaluative capacity will have access to individual responses.

More information about the COACHE 2024 survey, including strategic improvements that resulted from the COACHE 2020 survey, is available on the Office of Faculty Development website. If you have any questions or are having trouble finding your survey link, email the Office of Faculty Development at ofd@umass.edu.
