Minoring in physics at UMass Amherst is an excellent way to follow your curiosity and add to your academic study in a variety of fields, such as the physical or biological sciences, technology, engineering, teaching, and writing.

In this flexible minor, you’ll take five courses in physics and mathematics to give you a grounding in the field. You can tailor the curriculum to suit your personal interests and your career goals, choosing classes in areas such as electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, writing in physics, and active learning in physics education.

Many of our courses encompass a lab or other hands-on component, giving you the chance to gain real-world experience with your faculty and peers.

A solid foundation in physics is excellent preparation for a career as a science writer, K–12 teacher, researcher, or data analyst, among other occupations.
