The physics BS at UMass Amherst will give you an in-depth understanding of matter, energy, and interactions at the fundamental level in preparation for a career in research, industry, and beyond. This professional track in physics is a rigorous degree that’s perfect for you if you plan to move on to graduate work in physics or any closely related field.
Through your work towards the BS, you’ll enhance your knowledge in both physics and mathematics, taking courses and labs on topics such as electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and optics. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with our renowned faculty conducting research in biophysics, nanoscience, polymer materials, and other specialties.
After graduation, you’ll be ready to continue to graduate or medical schools, or pursue scientific and research careers at national and government labs, private companies, and other organizations and institutions.
