Physics is how we understand relationships between every part of the world around us, and its applications are endless. The physics BA at UMass Amherst helps you understand matter, energy, and interactions at the fundamental level. It is an ideal path for you if you’re interested in a career or graduate study in a nontechnical area of concentration, such as teaching or science writing. 

Studying physics, you’ll learn about topics such as electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and optics. You’ll also have the opportunity to join our renowned faculty conducting research in biophysics, nanoscience, polymer materials, and other areas.
