About

This project examines the wide-ranging impacts of nursing home closures across Massachusetts, engaging diverse stakeholders in workshops to understand causes, effects, and potential solutions.

Nursing Home Closures are complex phenomena that have a variety of impacts on individual and community outcomes, such as access to healthcare services and employment opportunities. This project seeks to meaningfully address these challenges in the Commonwealth and beyond by conducting research that examines the impacts of Nursing Home Closures on diverse communities, residents, and staff, as well as the factors that help some Nursing Homes remain open despite high-risk characteristics. The project team will be hosting community workshops across UMass Amherst campuses to explore experiences with Nursing Home Closures, their systemic impacts, and potential solutions. These workshops will engage a wide variety of stakeholders. The long-term goal is to advance research on Nursing Home Closures nationally and to inform Federal and State health policy.
