An Overdue Reckoning on Racism in Nursing: An Initiative to Develop Anti-Racism Solutions
About
On September 12, 2020, An Overdue Reckoning on Racism in Nursing (Overdue Reckoning) created a space for nurses of color to discuss their experiences of racism in nursing. RNs Reckoning with Racism video series came from the Overdue zoom discussions, a documentary project which captured a collection of stories from 40 nurses of color and 3 mini documentaries.
Dr Lucinda Canty, with co-investigators Dr Raeann LeBlanc and Dr Gabrielle Abelard have received this grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to build upon the foundation laid by the Overdue Reckoning with Racism in Nursing projects to develop effective and sustainable initiatives to address racism in all nursing environments. This particular project will build capacity for anti-racism and provide a model for having discussions around the sensitive conversations to address racism in nursing. The project will develop, implement, and evaluate initiatives that will create change on an interpersonal level to system level policy change.
