About

Dr Jessica Dillard-Wright, Assistant Professor in the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, has received the Karen Buhler-Wilkerson Faculty Research Fellowship for Historical Research in Nursing from the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. This will provide funds in support o Dr. Dillard-Wright's overall research project titled "CASSANDRA Radical Feminist Nurses Network, the Women's Health Movement, and the Medical Establishment: Tensions in Second Wave Feminism".

The aim of this project is to examine the intersection of Second Wave feminism and healthcare, attending to the construction of race, gender, sexuality, and class while exploring the concurrent tensions between nursing, medicine, and the women's health movement, situating them alongside the health activism efforts of organizations like the Black Panthers and the Young Lords during the Civil Rights era and beyond.
