Allison Vorderstrasse, current dean of the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, has been reappointed for the next five years by the Office of the Provost. Her reappointment became effective Sept. 1.
In an email to College of Nursing faculty, staff, and students last week, UMass Amherst Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Fouad Abd-El-Khalick calls Dean Vorderstrasse "a force for innovation on the campus and in the field of nursing," going on to name her major accomplishments in expanding clinical opportunities for students, supporting faculty research, and donor relations thus far.
"During her time as Dean of the College of Nursing, Vorderstrasse has been a force for innovation on the campus and in the field of nursing. She has grown the college’s clinical presence in the community and found ways to improve access for underrepresented students. She has also been instrumental in securing significant philanthropic support."

Of her reappointment, Dean Vorderstrasse says to College of Nursing faculty, staff, and students,
"As we look forward, we still have important things to address. I am committed to doing so in partnership with ALL of you. I have always looked at this role as an opportunity to support the student nursing journey as well as faculty research, education and scholarship. I will continue to keep these as my primary focus especially as we begin implementing the College's new strategic plan in the coming months."

Dean Vorderstrasse was first appointed to the College of Nursing in 2020, entering the role at a time of global upheaval due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Four faculty members made up the committee for her reappointment.
