Call for Abstracts: Sigma Region 15 Nursing Research Symposium 2024

Call for Abstracts

Deadline: Friday, May 17, 2024 (no later than 11:59 p.m. EST)

Local Sigma leaders invite EMCON members to submit abstracts for the 2024 Nursing Research Symposium on Oct. 19, 2024. All abstracts are welcomed, including written, visual, and performing arts* consistent with the theme: "Respect, Reflection and Response: Nurses Championing Health and Equity." Non-Sigma members and students are also encouraged to submit abstracts (work completed or in process). Deadline to submit: May 17, 2024.

This nursing Continuing Professional Development activity will be submitted to the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Submission Requirements

1. Cover letter with: 

  • Name of all presenters with credentials
  • Professional title and affiliation
  • Address, daytime phone #, and email address for primary presenter
  • Preferred presentation format: podium (15 minutes plus 5 minutes Q & A), rapid rounds (5 minutes), poster, or PechaKucha*
  • Title of presentation
  • One intended learning outcome (“The learner will be able to…”) 

*PechaKucha is a presentation which includes 20, image-based slides, each displayed for 20 seconds. Learn more here.

2. Abstract Format: 500 words maximum, 1-page limit; 12-point font. See format below:

Background: Describe background; brief literature review. Describe the relationship of the topic to the conference.Topic Overview: Describe the initiative; evidence in support of the initiative/practice change. Describe the relationship of the topic to the conference.Topic Overview: Describe the presentation's support of the initiative practice. Describe the relationship of the topic to the conference.
Purpose: describe the purpose of the studyPurpose: describe the purpose of the projectPurpose: describe the purpose of the presentation
Study Design/Methods: Describe the research methods, sample/setting, data collection, and data analysis.Project Design/Implementation: describe setting, timeline, and the process used to plan, implement and evaluate the initiative.Presentation Design/Implementation: describe setting, timeline, and the process used to plan, implement and evaluate the presentation.
Results: What were the key results? Include importance/relevance for practice.Outcomes: What were the outcomes? Include lessons learned and implications for practiceOutcomes: What were the outcomes? Include lessons learned and implications for practice.

Note: Exclude references or tables and any identifying information from the abstract, such as authors’ names or institutions.

Submissions will be acknowledged within one week. Notification of acceptance by June 14, 2024.

*All presenters must present in-person at the symposium. The audience may be both virtual and live.
