"Flu activity continues to rise across the United States, with Massachusetts seeing very high levels this winter.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there have been at least 7.5 million flu cases this season. The flu season generally peaks between December and February and its rise is attributed to increased indoor gatherings during colder weather.

Chris Diaz, a nurse practitioner at Pediatric Services of Springfield, explains that the flu vaccine is one preventive measure against illness, although it has only been about 30% effective this year. He notes that despite the lower effectiveness of the flu vaccine, individuals who do receive it tend to experience reduced symptoms."
