Professor Emeritus and former interim dean Ann Sheridan celebrates 90th birthday

Dr. E. Ann Sheridan, Professor Emeritus and former Interim Dean of the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing was celebrated on the occasion of her 90th birthday on February 17, 2024. Over 80 family, friends and colleagues gathered to honor Dr. Sheridan.
Dr. Sheridan was on faculty in the College of Nursing for over 30 years (1965 - 1998). During that time she was an inspiration, mentor, teacher and was well loved and respected by so many nursing students.
Olivia Frazier presented Dr. Sheridan with a Lifetime Achievement Citation signed by former UMass Amherst Chancellor Subbaswamy who is also an admirer of Dr. Sherdan. Dean Allison Vorderstrasse, former Dean Melanie Dreher, faculty member Nancy Thompson, former student Martha Curley as well as family members, friends and colleagues shared memories and accolades.
While at UMass Amherst College of Nursing, Dr. Sheridan was instrumental in establishing the Beta Zeta at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, was a founding member of the College of Nursing Alumni Board, compiled at least two historical documents and one book about the UMass Amherst College of Nursing and was an expert professor of pediatric nursing. For all of her work Dr. Sheridan was awarded the UMass Amherst Chancellor’s Award in the 1990s. She also received the ANA Massachusetts Living Legend Award in 2016.
As one of Ann’s family members said, “I learned a lot about Ann as a professional, an educator, a mentor, and a friend, and that many others have been touched by her love and kindness in different ways. It was a great experience for me," as it was for all who attended Dr. Sheridan’s celebration.
