Clinical Information for Undergraduate Nursing Majors

Nursing majors begin clinical rotations in the sophomore year. More information about clinical courses is provided in the undergraduate student handbook and will be explained more fully after students enter the program.

Some important information about clinical courses:

1. Credentialing: Students must have current credentials (immunizations, background checks, and other requirements) to be allowed in the clinical setting.

2. Required equipment:

  • Provided through the EMCON:
    • Nursing uniform
    • Nursing student official name badge (must be worn during clinical experiences and in simulation lab)
  • Students must purchase:
    • Stethoscope with diaphragm and bell
    • Watch with a sweep second hand
    • Nursing shoes: all-white or all-black sneakers are required. Athletic shoes made of canvas or cloth are not allowed because they cannot be cleaned adequately. Nursing clogs, if permitted by the clinical agency, must have closed toes and heels.

Note: The uniform is to be worn only in approved or clinical settings.

Clinical agency dress code policies must be followed while in the clinical setting.

3. Reliable transportation: Students are required to provide their own transportation to clinical and community sites.
