A Safe Environment
The Mount Ida Campus sits on 72 acres in the southwest-most village of Newton, Mass. The campus is surrounded by the Charles River Country Club and woodlands. The surrounding neighborhoods are known to be safe and well cared for by their residents.
Campus Security
The Mount Ida Campus has an on-premise security force providing 24/7 patrol, phone, and radio monitoring, as well as visitor management. In addition, an agreement with the City of Newton Police offers emergency support within minutes. The campus is equipped with Blue Light emergency stations, video monitoring, and access control throughout the campus.
Campus Safety is located in Holbrook Hall (Building 14) and is available 24/7 at 617-243-1477 (creating a contact on your phone is recommended). If you see something, say something.
In case of a life-threatening emergency, dial 911 from any campus landline or from your mobile phone and indicate that you are on the Mount Ida Campus in Newton.

Campus emergency numbers are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by both Newton Police Dispatch and by Mount Ida Campus Security Office. Landline phones are placed throughout campus and can be used to dial 911 in case of an emergency. For non-life-threatening concerns and on-campus security support call the security dispatch desk at X1477 from a landline on campus or 617-243-1477 from any phone.
Campus Emergencies
Campus phones or cell phones: dial 911 and state that you are at the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst, as well as the building and room/floor where you are located.
Campus Closures
Campus closures due to weather or emergency will be announced via text and e-mail alerts (see below to register for alerts), posted to the campus website as well as the campus Twitter feed.

Mail and Packages
The Security Office is also the hub for package delivery and campus visitor registration. This monitored and secure location is the central receiving office for all campus deliveries and campus mail and courier services to the Amherst campus.
