NEWTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst has partnered with the Holtzman Medical Group to launch a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at its Newton, Mass. site. The clinic, currently scheduled to be open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from Feb. 1 through at least March 19, will administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals.
Currently, the Commonwealth is in Phase Two of vaccine distribution. All eligible individuals must schedule an appointment in advance for the vaccine at http://www.holtzmanmedical.org/covid19. Registrants do not need to be patients of the medical practice or affiliated with UMass.
The Holtzman Medical Group plans to vaccinate between 200 and 250 individuals per day at the clinic and is working to increase capacity. New appointments will be posted to http://www.holtzmanmedical.org/covid19 on a rolling basis.
“We’re honored to partner with the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst and have been blown away by the generosity and initiative shown to us by their staff,” said Justin Holtzman, M.D., MHSA, medical director for the Holtzman Medical Group. “We understand that this is a very stressful time, and it is our goal to provide a smooth and easy experience to people who come into our clinic.”
The clinic further expands UMass Amherst’s role, in partnership with Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration, in distributing COVID-19 vaccines. UMass Amherst’s main campus launched a vaccination clinic for eligible Massachusetts residents and employees on Jan. 11.
“We’re proud to continue to find ways to support the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in our host communities,” said UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy. “This clinic will make vaccines more accessible to eligible individuals throughout Greater Boston, reflecting our commitment to utilizing our Newton campus to extend our statewide community and public service initiatives.”
