A minor in Arabic at UMass Amherst will allow you to focus on improving your language skills no matter what your background is.

We participate in the Five College Arabic Language Initiative, so you will have the opportunity to take courses at other Five College campuses as well as here at UMass. Whether you are a native or a non-native speaker in Arabic, there is a minor option for you.

  • For native speakers, the minor requires six courses (at least 18 credits) beyond the intermediate level of the language.
  • For non-native speakers, the minor requires one year of Arabic language courses (at least two courses and at least six credits) beyond the intermediate level.

For students with any level of Arabic knowledge, the minor is an excellent way of broadening their experience as undergraduates at UMass Amherst.
