2025 New Student Experiences
New Student and Family Programs recognizes that we must work together to create shared outcomes for both new and returning students to facilitate an experience that meets their needs. Our work must be co-constructed; developed comprehensively from conception to implementation and throughout assessment and evaluation. Collaboration will lead to seamless experiences for our students.
Ready for the U
Ready for the U is an opportunity for new students and their families to engage with the university: its community, resources, values, and expectations. Ready for the U is facilitated both online and on-campus. On-Campus Ready for the U is a great opportunity to meet new students and their families early in their UMass journey. Volunteering at Ready for the U shows our students and their families that our entire UMass community is committed to their success.
Guide to the U
Guide to the U is a series of self-paced, online modules that introduces new students and their families to the university: its community, resources, values, and expectations. We encourage all faculty and staff to complete Guide to the U annually prior to requesting or submitting edits. Faculty and staff may access Guide to the U here. For questions and edits to Guide to the U, please contact newstudent@umass.edu.
Next for the U
Next for the U is our new student newsletter. Next for the U is delivered to deposited new student email inboxes each week for the first 8 weeks and 63 days into a student's transition to UMass. Interested campus collaborators that would like to be included in Next for the U should contact newstudent@umass.edu.
Welcome to the U
Welcome to the U is a series of immersive opportunities during the first week of the semester for students to explore the university, its community, resources, values, and expectations through social events, community building, and leadership opportunities. Introducing and reintroducing students to our campus is work we do every semester. Therefore, the work that we do to welcome students to campus is an opportunity to be continuously revolutionary. We must approach this opportunity with open minds, a spirit of continual improvement, and enthusiasm to welcome students to their community of choice - a nationally ranked, public, flagship campus. This is our collective opportunity to change how we empower students to uniquely approach their educational journey and take pride in being an engaged member of the UMass Amherst community. Below are some ways to join the Welcome to the U celebration:
New Student Experience Timeline
The new student experience timeline is a collaborative campus initiative to highlight all responsibilities and expectations for incoming students. This initiative is intended to align due dates and ensure effective, correct communication to new students about their tasks and to-dos.
Family Communications
UMass schools and colleges and other university departments may submit things for inclusion in the Parents and Families monthly newsletter, or request assistance with messaging families.
