A minor in chemistry at UMass Amherst can be an excellent enhancement to your major in a related field, such as biology, environmental science, engineering, or sustainable food and farming.

In this flexible minor, you’ll take courses throughout the discipline in areas that suit your personal interests and your career goals. Topics can include organic or inorganic chemistry, quantitative analytical chemistry, and writing in chemistry, among other. In some cases, courses outside the discipline are also acceptable, such as biochemistry or chemical engineering.

Many of our courses include a lab or field component, giving you the opportunity for hands-on learning with your faculty and peers.

A minor in chemistry can be great preparation for careers in pharmacology, chemical engineering, medicine, education, law enforcement, and more, as well as for graduate study in several areas.
