The BS in geography at UMass Amherst is focused on the dynamics of global and local environmental change and placing local experiences within a global context.

You’ll study the physical processes, both natural and human caused, that impact and alter the earth’s surface, atmosphere, and biosphere. Your courses give you a foundation in math, chemistry, physics, geology, and computer science. You’ll also have the chance to explore topics such as climate change, remote sensing of the environment, and geographic information systems and technology (GIST) analysis and applications.

The BS in geography is ideal for students interested in climatology and climate change, geomorphology, and biogeography. Students interested in a broader education that also considers the relationship between sustainability, society, and nature might instead consider the BA in geography.
