About the Speaker
Brian Schaffner’s research interests focus on American
politics,
with a particular concentration on political campaigns,
elections, and public opinion.
A frequent contributer to
Pollster.com, he has served as a program officer
for the political
science program at the National Science Foundation,
is
co-author of Politics, Parties, and Elections in America (6th edition) and
co-editor of Winning With Words: The
Origins and Impact of Political Framing.
The Cole Lecture in Contemporary Issues is funded by
Robert
C. Cole Jr. ’59 (psychology) and his wife, Margaret.
This lecture
series aims to engage UMass Amherst alumni with faculty
whose
current research has a direct impact on world issues.
