About
Duy Pham is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Educational Assessment in the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He received his PhD in Research in Educational Measurement and Psychometrics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2019; a M.A. degree in Educational Administration from Boston College in 2011; a M.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Paris 11 Orsay in 2005; and a B.A. degree in Mathematics Education from the Hanoi National University of Education in 2003.
Before UMass, he worked at Educational Testing Service (ETS) as a lead psychometrician for the Initial English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) and back-up psychometrician for Summative ELPAC, Initial and Summative Alternate ELPAC. At ETS, he also conducted psychometric analyses for other statewide assessments such as California Spanish Assessment, California Alternate Assessments for English language arts, Mathematics, and Science, and California Science Test. He also worked on research projects to explore the use of Natural Language Processing to generate score and feedback for teacher performance transcripts in Mathematics and Science education.
He has received several awards including the Presidential Award at ETS for his work on remote testing in California during the COVID-19 pandemic and a Fulbright Scholarship from the Department of State to pursue his Master’s degree at Boston College.
He serves as a reviewer for the annual conferences of NCME, NERA, and AERA, and for the journals Practical Assessment, Research, and Evaluation, Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, and Frontiers in Education. In 2022, he was a conference co-chair for NERA. His work and research interests focus on language assessments, learning progressions in STEAM education, and online learning platforms.
