Research Interests:

My research focuses on the role of vitamin nutrition in reproductive health. Through the use biomarkers, such as plasma vitamin concentrations, my laboratory explores the ways that micronutrient status influences various aspects of reproductive function in both women and men. I am especially interested in the role of vitamin D in reproduction, and I am currently conducting a study on the UMass Amherst campus to measure vitamin D levels in college-aged women and to determine whether vitamin D status influences the risk of developing premenstrual syndrome. I am also developing a study to assess vitamin status and birth outcome in a group of low-income pregnant women in Springfield, Massachusetts. Through a collaboration with environmental health researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, I am also involved in exploring the relationship between vitamin status and reproductive parameters in a longitudinal study of dioxin-exposed adolescent boys in Chapaevsk, Russia.
