SPHHS Career and Internship Fair

Dear Public Health Colleagues and Friends,

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences, under a project entitled "Pathways to Public Health" will be hosting a Career and Internship Fair on Thursday, September 24,  2009 , 10-2pm at the UMASS Amherst campus in the Campus Center auditorium. The purpose is to connect public health agencies like yours with students seeking internships or employment.  It will also be a great time for our public health community to gather together and educate each other and attending students about all that public health has to offer, and what the current public health infrastructure in Western Massachusetts looks like today. Students attending will be interested in the wide range of community health efforts you represent, including health education, policy change, environmental health, nutrition and kinesiology/exercise science.

We’ll be inviting students from all over Western Massachusett to attend, including community college and 4-year college students in the surrounding communities. Free transportation to students will be provided to ensure that it is easy for them to attend. We hope to have many agencies there staffing tables and distributing information about careers, as well as potential internship/practica opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Specifically, we are asking if you can provide yourself or a designee to attend the fair, bring materials, and answer questions of the many students we hope will attend.  The fair is free and will include a light lunch and refreshments.

Please respond to risa@schoolph.umass.edu by August 1, 2009 to let us know if you will be attending this event or if you have ideas of others to invite.  Once we know you are coming, we'll send you more details!

We are looking forward to this first-ever event, and hope everyone will get a lot out of it!  We are also open to ideas as we shape the day, so if you have thoughts on how this can be even more successful, please be in touch with me.
