Turzanski-Fortner Selected for the SPHHS Outstanding Online Teacher Award
The School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) is pleased to announce that Renee Turzanski-Fortner, Instructor in the Online MPH in Public Health Practice program, has been named the recipient of the SPHHS Outstanding Online Teacher Award. The award, which is given annually by the School, recognizes excellence in online teaching.
Turzanski-Fortner completed her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from UMass Amherst in 2009. She currently teaches Principles of Epidemiology and Applied Epidemiology in the MPH-PHP program and was cited for her contributions to teaching in an online classroom environment.
“She taught the PUBHLTH 630 class this semester and was always available with help and suggestions and responded quickly to queries,” says Jeanne Chambers, a student in the program. “She made a subject that is difficult for me much more understandable. I think she is a gifted teacher.”
In addition to serving as an instructor in the online program, Turzanski-Fortner works for The German Cancer Research Center, DKFZ, as part of the EPIC study (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort study). Her research interests are reproductive and cancer epidemiology.
