Graduate student Emily Ramos invited to be panelist at conference
Emily Ramos, a candidate in the M.S. in Biostatistics program, was recently invited by the National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences to participate as a panelist at the Seventh Annual Field of Dreams Conference in Phoenix, AZ. The conference, held from Nov. 1-2, is a gathering of faculty in mathematical sciences and students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in those fields.
“They want me to share my experience as a graduate student who was once on the fence regarding continuing my education,” says Ramos. The panel discussion will also address many of the tasks required to attend graduate school, such as: taking the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), letters of recommendation, and funding.
“I am excited to be invited back to Field of Dreams. I attended last year as an undergrad and this conference is what pushed me to pursue graduate school. Being invited back is an honor! I hope I can give back and help undergraduate students see that they can do it too,” Ramos adds.
