Classroom Equity Plan

Classroom Equity Action Plans were launched as a University-wide initiative developed to respond to student feedback from the UMass campus climate survey. The Elaine Marieb College of Nursing has developed a Classroom Equity Action Plan aligned with the of Office of the Provost, the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI), the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Instructional Design, Engagement and Support (IDEAS), the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment (OAPA), University Analytics an Institutional Research (UAIR) to "reflect on our current pedagogy and to exercise our academic freedom to make improvements that promote the success of ALL our students. The overarching goal of the Equity Action Plans is to improve equity in student belonging and connectedness in the classroom and ultimately success." In service to this effort, we have identified the following goals for  

EMCON:

Entire college:  

  1. Develop and implement EMCON Classroom Equity Action Plan.
  2. Develop and implement Technical Standards for Admission and Progression.

Graduate program faculty:

  1. Faculty who work in a supervisory or mentoring capacity with graduate or honor students will complete Research Mentor Training.
  2. Faculty will also identify and participate in at least one additional pedagogy- or teaching-related professional development offering that highlights some aspect of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, belonging, community.

Undergraduate program faculty:

  1. In partnership with EMCON OEI and program leadership, faculty will attend a focused professional development workshop to on inclusive teaching strategies to support a culture of belonging.  
  2. Faculty will also identify and participate in at least one additional pedagogy- or teaching-related professional development offering that highlights some aspect of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, belonging, community.
