Over the top
Campaign UMass closes one year early, $5 million
over goal
Rationing exclamation points
is a matter of policy at UMass Magazine. The university is a place
rich in things to get worked up about, so in the interest of our readers
nerves we try to pace ourselves.
Still, youll probably
see an instance or two of what old-time printers called a bang
(!) in our Spring 2001 magazine. In that issue, out in May, we plan a
report on the successful completion of the campuss first capital
campaign.
Campaign UMass call
it Campaign I, because this activist approach to strengthening the campus
will surely continue was more than a fund-raiser. It had goals
for image and advocacy as well as dollars. We allude to them too in the
following list of highlights:
- over $130 million raised
- over $10 million raised for financial aid
- 17 named professorships created
- goal of 3,000 engaged volunteers exceeded
- near-tripling of alumni association membership
- new logo and visual identity system adopted
Thousands of acts of financial
generosity are reflected in these figures, which include gifts from alumni,
friends, parents, faculty and staff, businesses, and organizations. So
are countless commitments of time, talent, energy, and affection to UMass.
Be proud! And look for details
in May.
