Shakuntala Ray


Shakuntala Ray received an M.A. in English Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. She recently earned a Ph.D. in English, specializing in post-colonial theory and literature, from UMass Amherst. She works on modern global fiction with a focus on the politics of food and modernity. Having taught a variety of courses across departments such as WGSS (Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies), CSI (Critical Social Inquiry) and STPEC (Social Thought and Political Economy), she is committed to examining interdisciplinary, transnational, and innovative teaching and writing practices. Some of her published essays can be found in journals such as Feminist Review and Journal of Commonwealth Literature. Ray currently teaches College Writing, our first-year writing course, and serves on the Charles Moran Best Text Committee.
