The Writing Program's Best Text Contest is currently accepting submissions for a banner image for the 2024 Best Text winners! The winning entry will be used on the Writing Program website and promotional materials as well as the Best Text Collection website.
The winner will receive swag from the UMass bookstore, along with image credit on the collection, website, and promotional materials.
Eligibility:
All students enrolled in Writing, Identity, and Power (ENGLWRIT 111), College Writing (ENGLWRIT 112/112H), or Junior Year Writing courses during the fall 2024 or spring 2025 semesters are eligible to submit to the Best Text Image Contest.
Each student may submit up to three images for consideration.
Submissions are due by May 31, 2025.
Guidelines:
What should be included in the image:
The image should represent the Writing Program, the Best Text contest, UMass Amherst, or writing in some way.
The image must include the text “UMass Amherst Writing Program Best Text Collection.”
The lower left corner should be a dark color to contrast with the volume information that will appear on the Best Text Collection site.
Though the image is not required to follow UMass Amherst brand guidelines, you may wish to review fonts and colors for inspiration.
Technical aspects:
Dimensions and sizing: the image should be 4 parts wide to 1 part high. Total height should be about 300 or 400 pixels tall. For example, an image might be 400px tall and 1200px wide.
Submit your image in JPEG, JPG, or PNG file format.
The image can be created digitally (such as with a drawing tablet, MS Paint, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Procreate, GIMP, Canva, etc.) or physically (on paper, painting, drawing, textile art, etc.). Photography is also allowed. However, use of AI in creation of the image is not allowed.
If you use images, graphics, or other assets that do not belong to you, make sure these elements are in the public domain and free to use without attribution.
A panel of judges will select the winner. The winning entry will be announced in early summer 2025.
The winner should be willing to make slight adjustments to the image, if possible and if requested. Writing Program staff might also make adjustments to the image, if needed.
