Li Hou, a Ph.D. candidate in the Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) program and an instructor of ENGLWRIT 112 in the Writing Program at UMass Amherst, has received a grant from the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) Engagement Fund for her project, "Multilingual Voices Project: Digital Storytelling for Belonging and Inclusive Teaching."
Matthew Morrison brings a breadth of experience both as a writer and teacher to his appointment as a Lecturer in the Writing Program. He's been a reporter and a poet, and he's taught college, middle and high school students. Now, he's a member of the faculty here, and will bring his expertise to courses as well as individual work with students across campus at UMass.

Aaron Tillman and the Writing Program have received an Open Education Initiative Grant which awards outstanding faculty-led projects that embrace the principles of open education.
We are saddened to report the passing of Professor Emeritus Peter Elbow, who died after a short illness on February 6. Peter was on the faculty of the UMass Amherst English Department from 1987 to 2000, and directed the Writing Program from 1996 to 2000.
The Writing Program's Best Text Contest is currently accepting submissions for a banner image for the 2025 Best Text winners. The winning entry will be used on the Writing Program website and promotional materials as well as the Best Text Collection website.
