Associate Director for the Junior Year Writing Program
D.K. McCUTCHEN holds an MFA from University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Graduate Diploma of Science in Wildlife Management from Otago University New Zealand. She is a Senior Lecturer ll, teaching Junior Year Writing full time for the College of Natural Sciences, UMass Amherst, since 2008. She shares the position of Associate Director for the Junior Year Writing Program with Dr. Haivan Hoang, conducting outreach across disciplines on the teaching of JYW by faculty. She is a long-term member of the University Writing Committee and welcomes any and all discussion on writing.
Book Publications include JELLYFISH DREAMING (speculative literature) winner of a Leapfrog Global Fiction Prize, published in the US & UK August 22, 2023.
WHALE ROAD (creative nonfiction), a South Pacific Kiriyama Prize Notable Book & Pushcart nominee about sailing with whale researchers through the South Pacific, published by Random House NZ (2004) & Blake UK (2006), and now in reprint with Jackleg Press, USA, October 17th, 2023.
ICE, winner of a Speculative Literature Foundation grant, will be published by Leapfrog Press, August of 2024.
