PWE Welcomes Francis Lo!

PWE Welcomes Francis Lo!

We are so pleased to welcome Francis Lo (they/them) as our new Grants and Contracts Coordinator and Office Manager. Francis began at PWE in November 2022 and has over a decade of experience working in higher education, most recently spending the last three years as the Program Coordinator for the English MFA for Poets and Writers at UMass. An alum of Emerson College and  Mills College, Francis brings creative energy along with finely tuned editing and administrative skills to their work.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Francis become a member of our team,” says PWE Director Joe Connolly. “Francis will play a critical role in supporting our office and our growing grants portfolio.” Francis will take a lead role in the registration process for the PWE campus offerings—a selection of over 100 educational offerings for UMass staff—as well as provide administrative, financial and technical support on grants.

Francis highlights how they value collaborating with diverse populations, “Equity and fairness are very important to me. I’m particularly excited about the possibility of working in a program that supports and provides opportunities for professional development and advancement for the UMass workforce.”

Francis has a BFA in writing, literature and publishing from Emerson College and an MFA in creative writing with a focus in poetry from Mills College. In addition to their work in higher education, Francis is a poet and editor. They are the author of A Series of Un/Natural/Disasters (Commune Editions 2016), and the chapbooks NO FILTER (Aggregate Space 2014) and Ephemera & Atmospheres (Belladonna* 2014). In 2021, L’Internationale Online published what about support and what about struggle, a speculative translation project that invited writers and artists across a range of geopolitical contexts to respond to Lo’s A Series of Un/Natural/Disasters across languages, forms, and aesthetic-political concerns.

Please join us in welcoming Francis!
