At this one-session workshop you hear from campus managers and the Employment Office, who will give you an inside view of hiring decisions. What skills give applicants an advantage? What skills do applicants often overlook? What do managers, in particular, look for when hiring an AFSCME positions? What personal characteristics are they hoping for in new hires? What makes certain applicants stand out? Panelists will offer tips to use when applying for campus jobs and promotions. Session 2: Unions 101: Understanding Contracts and Benefits

This one-session workshop is an opportunity to learn what unions are about, how to maximize little-known union benefits, what every union member should know on campus. This is an informational workshop intended to share basic information from a management and from a union perspective. Session 3: The Classification System & Upgrading Your Position

How does the UMass job classification system work? And what are the steps to upgrading your position and getting your job reclassified? Join staff from the HR classifications department and union members for a discussion about some of the ways that jobs are upgraded.
