In the spring of 1988, more racist attacks on campus spurred “Black and other Third World students” to occupy New Africa House. The Women’s Studies Policy Board held an emergency meeting to discuss racism on campus and adopted a statement of solidarity. They called for a two-day moratorium on business as usual in order to have a campus-wide conversation about racism and sexism on campus and how to respond to it.38
