The Western Massachusetts Writing Project's Best Practices in the Teaching of Writing annual conference is coming up on Saturday, October 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the campus of UMass Amherst. The theme is ReWriting the Script: How to Make Change in Classrooms, Schools and Communities.
Highlights include three rounds of workshops, ranging from instilling a research focus on climate change in the classroom, using technology to look at student writing, to merging writing with science instruction, connecting literacy to math, to using games to increase student engagement and more. The keynote speaker is Dr. Declan O'Connor, principal at the Chestnut Middle School in Springfield. Lunch is included in registration.
